Botox

Getting Botox in Philadelphia has never been easier than here at Jardin.

What is Botox?

Botox also known as botulinum toxin type A, is one of several different toxins produced by Clostridium bacteria. The bacterium itself is not used in the treatment, but the protein manufactured by the bacterium is used.

How is it administered?

Botox injections are given in small amounts, they relax the muscles, which cause skin wrinkles and temporarily paralyzes the muscles underlying the wrinkles, thereby smoothing out the skin on top. Nerve terminals are inhibited, therefore the muscle will not respond. You literally cannot frown after the treatment, or just enough to still have expression, but no lines, but you do not lose sensation or expression. The nerve eventually sprouts a new terminal.

Botox is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes, forehead, and mouth to reduce worry lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines. These dynamic wrinkles are caused by contractions of the delicate under-laying facial muscles. With every smile, laugh or frown, and also as we age, these wrinkles and lines become deeper. The procedure is quick and does not require any anesthetic. Results appear in 2 to 4 days and continue for at least 3 to 4 months although some patients can see results lasting up to 6 months. Botox is successfully being used worldwide and is safer than its origin suggests.

Is Botox for you?

You may be a candidate for Botox injections if:

  • You have a deep furrow between your eyebrows.
  • You have expression lines, or crows feet around your eyes.
  • The lines across your forehead make you seem older than you are.
  • You have extremely deep frown lines.
  • You have a constant scowl or appear overly stern.
  • People have begun commenting you look angry or upset when you are not.
  • You don’t like the way you look in pictures.

What is the recovery and healing process like?

Botox injections cause almost no redness or swelling. You may drive yourself to and from the treatments and resume normal activities immediately. It is best to avoid any heat and sweating for the first 24 hours.

What are Botox Side Effects?

Botox is given with such a tiny needle that there is minimal discomfort involved, but it is a needle. Should patients have an aversion to needles, an analgesic cream is used. There can be a slight chance of minimal and temporary bruising at the injection site. Other negative side effects can be eyelid drooping if the Botox seeps below the eyebrow and hits the muscle that controls the lid, but that is very rare. Moreover, it is probably related to the injection technique, and/or the placement or rate of injection. Eye drops can reverse the Botox effect for about six hours. Otherwise, the patient just has to wait until the nerve regenerates. The only people who should not have Botox treatments are those known to be allergic, persons with neurological diseases and pregnant women. In some first time Botox users, a slight headache is felt for the first few days until the muscles completely relax.

What can you expect with Botox Injections?

After treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, reversing the visible signs of aging. Botox can take anywhere from one to seven days to have this effect after injection. The results last, on average, three to four months. However, after three or four treatment sessions, some patients have experienced a more long-lasting effect. Botox is known to last as long as seven months in some patients. Botox will not improve sagging skin or replace the need for a facelift. Botox cannot improve wrinkles not caused by muscle contractions.

What is the cost of Botox?

Botox prices in Philadelphia depend on how much Botox the patient is getting and where they are getting it.  At Jardin Medical Spa, the Botox cost is per unit.  When you come in for your complimentary consultation, Dr. Mansoury will tell you how many units are needed to smooth away your lines and wrinkles.

Before and after photos show no lines and wrinkles between the brows, on the forehead and around the eyes (crows feet).  At Jardin Medical Spa, we do not freeze your expressions completely, but give just enough Botox to erase those lines leaving you with some expression.
