Our Services: Micropeels

BotoxWhat is a micropeel?

A micropeel is the combination of microdermabrasion and a chemical peel in one treatment. The physical form of exfoliation from the microdermabrasion and the chemical form of exfoliation from the Salicylic acid creates clear, even skin.

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a general term for the application of tiny rough grains to buff away the surface layer of skin. The process gets rid of layers of dead and damaged skin cells. It can also minimize pores, help scar tissue and clear up acne.

What is Salicylic acid?

Salicylic acid is a chemical that helps unclog pores by removing dead skin cells and killing bacteria, which helps prevent breakouts.

What are the effects of a micropeel?

The idea is that if you remove or break up the stratum corneum (outermost layer of skin), the body interprets that as a mild injury and rushes to replace the lost skin cells with new and healthy ones. In the first hour after treatment, this causes mild edema (swelling) and erythema (redness). These side effects can last anywhere from an hour to two days.

How long does the treatment take?

Approximately 20-30 minutes.

How many treatments will I need?

Depending on your skin, it can be 6 to 8 treatments, 2 to 4 weeks apart.

What will my skin look like after the treatment?

Your skin may feel like a mild sunburn or windburn, but any further pain is not common. There may also be some flaking, and acne may temporarily worsen.

How do I take care of my skin?

Before, during and after the micropeel treatments, clients must use good skin care products. They must protect their skin with medical grade sunblock every day.

What kind of products?

Clenziderm is a great acne fighting skin care line. You can purchase the products through your skin care professional.

Who is not a good candidate for a micropeel?

  • Active rosacea
  • Fragile capillaries
  • Vascular lesions
  • Widespread acne
  • Herpetic lesions (herpes)
  • Warts
  • Open sores
